Palazzo Rollo - Historical Residence in the center of Lecce

Palazzo Rollo is located in Lecce’s old town overlooking the fascinating tower bell of the Duomo. The Palace has been restored in order that all the beauty and the original charm was regained.

The Palace is characterized by the climbing vine surrounding the inner courtyard and the beautiful rooftop terrace from which it’s possible to admire and almost “touch” the monuments of the town.

Local flowers and plants adorn the terrace turning it into a real  roof garden. This place is perfect to spend relaxing summer nights. As the spring comes, a traditional “aperitivo” is served on the terrace during the sunset.

The large courtyard is available for parking.

Palazzo Rollo belongs today to the Andretta family. They bought it from the Lopez Y Rojo family in the 17th century. At the beginning, the second floor of the Palace was given to the Theatines, which transformed it into an elegant dormitory connected to the convent through a secret door. This was not the only hideout offered to the Theatines. Another subterranean path was used by the bishops to escape during the invasion’s hard times.

The ground floor and a large part of the first floor have been transformed 13 years ago in a charming B&B. Thanks to the central position, the Palace impresses tourists and guests with its climbing vine that covers the inner courtyard of the Palace. The lush creeper is meant to be centenary but it was “imported” by Mrs. Adriana just twenty years ago. She took a seed from the terrace of a friend in Rome. Soon it became an expanse of greenery. A green colour which in autumn transforms into red, orange, yellow and brown leaves. Thus, the Palace changes its entire aspect.

In addition, the surrounding environment offers a stunning scenery on the main street.
The discovery continues inside the palace, where part of it is still occupied by Mrs Adriana and her daughter Elena.

Thanks to the barrel vaults, cross vaults and the tapestry that covered everything it is possible to immerse youself in old times.

Due to the “undressing” of the palace, that is the elimination of the tapestry, a real work comes out: sketches by Geremia Re before decorating with frescoes of blue the vault of the present Sala Scirocco. Moreover it is refined with a golden reticulum. In the same room there is an ancient inscription which was the symbol of San Bernardino, while later was acquired by the Jesuits. These are only few of the hidden wonders of Palazzo Rollo, which actually, reserve his real treasure on the roof. The guests are the real privileged one, so they can enjoy a very breathtaking rooftop admiring Lecce from the high. A sight of the city that few people know. An amazing view on different types of chimneys, Leccese stone (a limestone rock typical of the Salento area famous for its easily manifacture), larges rooftops and, in the middle, the Duomo’s belfry which arise unexpectedly from the stones of the beautiful rooftop. Even if the sight is wonderful during the day, the real show is at night when an espectacular sight offers a suggestive scenery of churches: firm light on the wide urban landscape.
